Recreation: Filming - Day 1

Image
Today was the first shoot day. We focused on filming the bedroom scenes between Jeremy and Elena. These were done with a hand held camera. The filming was done so that we did Jeremy's lines first and the his interactions with Mark and then Elena. The first shoot went well, the only issues we had was with the lighting as the small room would become very hot after a few minutes of filming. During this shoot I was both recording sound and acting as Elena. Photos:

Hellboy (2019) Trailer Review

Image
This is a review for the new Hellboy trailer, that is set to come out in April 2019. The previous rendition of this film came out in 2004, and it was the first movie in the hellboy franchise. I personally loved the origional as is was dark, cynical and littered with adult humour and issues that captured the audiences heart. the new "version" of the origional movie seems to be lack those same aspects. From the trailer we can see that there is obviously adult humour, from the line "I dont think this is going to work out, im a capricorn and you're f*cking crazy". Sure it may be amusing but the charm of the first movie is that the humor was smart and specific to the audience it was targeted at. With the new rendition it seems like the target audience is wider and the jokes are hitting themselves on the head with how obvious they are. The special effects in the new trailer seem to have been upped compared to the original Hellboy that was released 15 years prior, even

Shoot to Edit

When filming to edit one of the things you need to keep in mind at all times is your planned shot list. A shot list is usually something you make up before you film, and it consist of the shot number, shot type and a detailed description of what the shot is and why you are doing it. This helps you cut down on excess footage that wont be used. When you have a shot list you are able to pre plan an edit which makes the job for the editor easier. Shooting for the edit for documentaries is a bit more difficult because anything could happen with contributors, however for tv shows and movies you would use a shot list to keep track of filming and the shots. When using a shot list it allows you to avoid editing roadblocks and helps organise footage and keep track of B-roll.

Fall Out Boy Music Video Review

Image
Fall Out boy are a well know punk/rock band. They originally formed in 2001, but took a 2 year hiatus from 2010-2012. They are known for there songs, Sugar, were going down swinging and   Immortals from Big Hero Six. There music viedo are know for being wierd and out of the normal. A good example of this from their earlier days is the 12 videos that make up Save Rock and Roll. The 12 videos tell the story of the band trying to escape the darkness the plauged lead singer, Patrick Stump. In an interview the lead singer said that he wanted to reform the band with this new song that re told  the story of rock music, after going back to a dark place. He said that the creative outlet of creating music has always helped him and the other members stay positive. Another good example of wierd and unusual music videos is from their latest album, MANIA, The Last Of  The Real Ones. This music video is a parody on Kanye West Flashing Lights.

TV Show Review: "Russian Doll"

Image
Russian Doll is a Netflix original created by the star of the show Natasha Lyonne. In the show Natasha Lyonne plays Nadia Vulvokov, a young women who finds herself reliving her 36th birthday over and over again. The concept of Russian Doll is similar to Groundhog day in the sense of the main character is reliving a singular set of days over and over until the resolve. Within the first few episodes we follow Nadia through her several attempts to leave and survive the night. The series is marketed as a comedic drama, which is very true. There are many moments within the show that are both heartfelt and brilliantly hilarious. One moment that stands out in the show and that was shown within the trailer which is a sequence of Nadia repeatedly falling down the stairs trying to escape the party. It is briefly interrupted by comedic moments of Nadia trying different ways to get down the stairs. Stair fall: Even though Russian doll is very comedic is does not drop the drama. When we en

A chase sequence

The chase was edited in order of the route taken. We weren't able to get a big enough variety of shots due to time but we made sure that it was comedic and fast pace still. If I could change anything about the project I would have liked to spend more time on creating multiple shots and making the editing more snappy.
