Roles in the Film Industry

In the film industry there are hundreds of different rols to go into. I will be name the vital roles and describing what the role intails.

Film Director: They oversee all aspects of the creative process. It also involes managing budgets, department meeting, involment in all stages of filming and communication visions effectivly

Director of Photography: Also known as Cinematographer, the DOP works alongside Film Directors  to realise films. A DOP will manage both camera and lighting crews on set . Thet are expected to have a deep understanding of cameras and lighting for a technical stand point.

Producer: A producer is usually only involved with the paperwork side of the film project, however on smaller set the producer will oversee the whole creative process much like a director. They are expected to take control of the production and are incharge of getting a budget in place and organising the shoots.

Editor: The editor is someone who works with the director to help make there vision come a reality. They use either a paper edit of an editing script to do this. It is an editor job to bring creative flair and passion to each projects.

Runner: A runers job is to carry out administive tasks and are vital to keeping the shoot running smoothly. Runners work with setting up scene, hiring props, transporting equipment, running errands for the senior positions.

Lighting Technician: The key to a good film is lighting. This is handled by a lighting technical who works under the DOP. Most lighting technicans are expected to have some qualifications to do with electrians. They must have a good technical knowledge on lights and rigs.

Sound Technician: A sound technician, is responsible for operating equipments needed to record, mix and enhance sound. With this role, you could be, boom operator or supervisor in post.
