Conventions of a chase sequence

Chase sequences are commonly found in, action films, horror films and cartoons. They are also occassionalyfound in farsical comedies. Because of this chase sequences dont always have to be serious unless in horror or action films, in which they are. The music for chase scenes is usually intense and set the tone for the movie. One of the biggest sound effects used in chase scenes is hearbeats and heavy breathing, to keep the pace up and the tension high. With the different shot types the music usually dictates the editing with the shots being cut to the beat. The main shots used are:

  1. Close ups - to display emotion of the character
  2.  Long establishing shot - to show the length of the setting in which the chase takes place.
  3. Tracking shot - to track the character
  4. Slow motion - to create tension and for moments of close call.
